Flood Mitigation Feasibility Study
Based on Corman Park's two-dimensional (2D) hydraulic modelling and mapping study of the South Saskatchewan River valley south of Saskatoon, some areas are considered flood fringe (development may be allowed subject to conditions), however the majority of the area has been identified as floodway (no or limited development allowed).
Based on these modelling results, Council wanted to undertake a feasibility study for flood mitigation options, as a means to see what the result of a dyke would be on reducing the floodway (or other impacts). The focus was on three different options for dykes, including building up Valley Road. Barr Engineering was retained to complete the feasibility study. Design assumptions to evaluate three dyke concepts were developed followed by hydraulic modeling and analysis to assess potential impacts on the flood profile and velocities in this area. The technical memorandum/report documents the final results as well as high level cost estimates.
