The Nutrien Cory Potash Mine will be conducting a Helicopter Electromagnetic (“HEM”) program near its surface operations.
When: July 2, 2023 – July 12, 2023
Who: Xcalibur Multiphysics Group on behalf of Nutrien
Through its operating companies of Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. and Agrium Ltd., Nutrien Ltd. owns and operates six mines in Saskatchewan, including Cory.
As part of our ongoing operations, Nutrien regularly monitors our operating sites and surrounding areas, the HEM program is one way in which Nutrien does this. These monitoring programs are necessary for Nutrien to ensure proper stewardship and care for the land while we safely and responsibly produce potash in Saskatchewan. Nutrien undertakes its monitoring activities in accordance with applicable laws, and as required by the Saskatchewan Government’s Ministry of Environment.
During the time range identified above, you may notice a helicopter flying 60 meters above the ground with equipment suspended below it via cable. Highly experienced crews will be flying the helicopter and monitoring their surroundings. An example photograph of the helicopter and its attachment is shown here for reference. The attached equipment is the instrument which emits a small electromagnetic signal (radio wave) and then records the response from the ground below. This electromagnetic field is entirely harmless to humans and animals. The survey will not cause any adverse effects to buildings, flora, or fauna.
