Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure Sight Triangle Clearing

In response to recent intersection collisions in the province, the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure is reviewing intersections with sight obstructions for possible clearing.

Intersection sight triangles refer to the area adjacent to the intersection of two roadways.

When this area is cleared of trees, brush, and other obstructions it provides a clear view for drivers to see each other as they approach the intersection, and improves safety. In accordance with The Highways and Transportation Act the Ministry manages development within sight triangles for the purposes of ensuring safety of motorists.

In an effort to improve intersection safety, the Ministry is working with landowners to clear sight triangles. This involves removing obstructions from the right of way and the adjacent land. Over the next couple of months, the Ministry will be contacting landowners at locations where it is recommended that sight triangle clearing take place on private land. The Ministry will work with landowners directly to determine what obstructions there are, and what clearing can be done.
